I and Unión MicroFinanza Director of Operations Patrick Hughes are attending the Chicago Coffee Fest this weekend. The festival is world renowned and is designed to help attendees refine and build their specialty coffee business through education, training, booths, events and workshops. The festival is held on Chicago's Navy Pier: http://www.coffeefest.com
The Chicago Coffee Fest is also host the North Central Regional Barista Competition. This competition features the best baristas from the north central area of the U.S: http://usbaristachampionship.org/?p=northcentral
Josh Longsdorf will be competing with Pastor Bernardo Ponce Moreno's coffee. Bernardo is one of UMF's producers from the aldea (village) of Las Penas within the La Union municipality of Lempira, Honduras. I brought Bernardo's coffee back to the U.S. on February 4 after it was freshly picked and delivered to the UMF office on horse back. A month ago Bernardo did an awesome video interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhjiQQA86nA
It will be a great week for Pastor Bernardo, the La Unión region and the work of UMF. I wish Josh the best of luck this weekend and will be there to cheer him on.
